Wrightsville Beach 1/2 Marathon 2010

By: Landon Dunn

Hi all, What a race!!! My cousin, Clay, my daughter Susan and I arrived at the race start before dawn. It was an early race–starting at 6:30 am. We ran over the bridge – which was the steepest incline in the whole race , ran down one lane of Military Cut Drive and then into the beautiful gated community of Landfall…the race was point to point, ending in a nearby shopping center and it was flat!! People in the neighborhood cheered us on, looked like some early imbibing going on to me!!! I set a personal record of 2:02 at a 9:20 pace !!! Susan ,who ran with a sore knee ran in 2 hours 13 minutes and Clay in his first ever race ran a sub 2 hour time-1 hour 55 minutes!!! This was a very well organized small race.. The marathon component caps at I believe 1000 and is a Boston Qualifier. This is definitely a race to consider for next year.
