Corporate Cup 1/2 Marathon 2009
By: Brian Sammons
Hi all, since no one else decided to, I figure I’ll give a quick report on the UCRR’s w/end at the Corporate Cup! Nothing funny here, just the news, I report, you decide…
The weather could not have been more perfect, I’m guessing 55 with a light breeze to begin, and low 60’s by 10am. For those of you who ran it last year you remember the chilly temps and gail force winds…what a nightmare that was! Saturday was perfect!
5k -Vince was the loan rep in the 5k, but represent he did with a blazing 19:51 which was good enough for 2nd in the 30-34 age group! Congrats Vince on your trophy (they gave out trophy’s for top 3’s which I thought was great)!
I had the unique perspective of riding a bike through the last 5 miles of this race back from the last relay point, so I “visited” with some of the ½ Marathoners on the way through:
½ Marathon – Plenty of good lookin UCRR’s in this race, as well as Jack, participated. Some highlights: Ed Morse’s debut brought him in at 1:34:04, great run Ed! Dave said “I didn’t have the legs today”…all the way to a 1:39:35…yeah Dave…tough run…sandbagger…one runner I didn’t get to visit with…because he’s too damn fast was Tim Friederichs. Tim finished in 1:23:57 which placed him 14th overall and 2nd in the Masters Division! Yes, another trophy for UCRR. Great run Tim, I hope some of your speed rubs off on me working on the same floor! Many others, including Shawn, the girl with the tight gluteus, Jack, Holly, Theoden, Mrs. Strack, the other Brian, and Christina ran the race, good job to all. Of a special note Amy Sammons finished her first ½! I may have missed someone…but congrats to all!
½ Marathon Relay: Representing the UCRR’s were the 3 Stooges, Brian, Chris, & Eric. You may know them better as “the really hot guys in our group”. The Stooges took 4:30 off of their 2008 time and finished 4th overall and 2nd in the Men’s division in 1:30:57! Chris alone took over 2 minutes off his 5k leg and Eric brought us home strong as usual!
Special thanks to Darryl for volunteering!
And very special thanks for Jack & Eric for ensuring that no one went home w/o a Trophy!
